October 1999  the Roscommon County Genealogical Society was officially registered with the state of MI. In 2000 it became a tax exempt 501 c3 society.  Members are committed to helping each other learn about genealogy and to help fellow researchers.

The Roscommon County Genealogical Society has a Research and education center. This building has 4 rooms of genealogy material relating to Roscommon County, MI.

RCGS volunteers are available to help you.  It may be advisable to call ahead if you are traveling a long distance, as this site is managed by volunteers and things do come up occasionally

There is also information at the Research and Education Center from other city, county, states, and genealogy societies in the US. Many of the holdings have been submitted by members of the society who research other areas of the world,  donations, and society purchases.

Admission is free.

The Hours are:

  • Wednesday from 12noon to 4pm
  • Other hours by appointment

Researchers will have access to:

  • high speed internet, to do genealogy research
  • use of microfilm and microfiche readers and film
  • computer CD's on genealogy
  • the Society library holdings.

On the 2nd Thursday of each month there is a general membership meeting from 1pm until 3 pm. The meeting is in the Denton Twp. stone building to the north of the research center and to the west of the Denton Twp. offices.  These buildings are near the corner of M-55 and M-18. Turn south at the light onto M-18 and you will see the buildings.
